Cursillo

This strange looking word is pronounced ker-SEE-oh, Spanish for "a short course." A Cursillo weekend is a 3-day inspirational weekend in which participants not only hear inspiring talks on what it means to be a Christian, but actually experience the joy of God's grace and of being part of a loving community. Participants in a Cursillo weekend come from Lutheran churches all over Arizona.

How about you? Want a weekend "away from it all"?
Want some time to grow closer to God and renew your faith?

A Cursillo weekend is for you! There are two weekends for men and two weekends for women each year. There is also an annual weekend for youth called Tirosh.

Please call Gloria Rice, La Casa de Cristo's representative, at 480-483-9599 for an application

People within a congregation who have participated in a Cursillo weekend often meet together in small groups called reunions or "groupings" in order to encourage and support one another and to share their faith.

Cursillo testamonial -
God’s gifts revealed at Cursillo weekend

When I signed up for Cursillo, I had no idea what I was getting into. I waited for the weekend with anticipation and anxiety, not knowing what awaited me. No watches, no cell phones, no email, how would I survive without them! My fears dissipated quickly after I arrived and found myself surrounded by so many caring Christian men, both leaders and participants. It reminded me of Christmas. What wonderful gifts. Gifts being presented and opened one by one, throughout the weekend. Gifts that were undeserved and coming from people who knew only that I was a child of God. Leaders and other team members who had invested months of time preparing for this. How awesome our God is! Christmas seems even more appropriate as an analogy since the gift that God gave us was Jesus. But even more appropriate was the gift that Jesus ultimately gave to us, his life, for the forgiveness of our sins, completely undeserved, given with unconditional love.

Our verse for the weekend was, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God---not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8. I did not deserve what I received at Cursillo, but God gave it to me none the less. As I remember the weekend, as I try to recall the emotions, I can’t think of anything that comes back to me more strongly than the thoughts of God’s unconditional love for having given a sinner such as me, this wonderful gift. Only by the grace of God.

Your brother in Christ,
Ted Cole
