Blood Drive

Social Outreach Ministry

In coordination with the United Blood Services, blood drives are scheduled on our campus several times during the year. Our participation as a congregation and your personal donation goes toward saving the life of an accident victim or surgery patient.

Blood drives are year round, so please watch the newsletter and Sunday bulletin for a schedule of upcoming drives. Don’t be turned away because you did not make an appointment. The number of appointments scheduled determines the number of workers the United Blood Services sends. Give blood, the gift of life!

 Thanks to these heroes

Everyone who has donated blood at one of the blood drives at La Casa de Cristo is a hero. Eleven of our members, who have donated 50 or more units, are superheroes! They are:

Judy Franson – 73 units
Dale Bedenkop – 70 units
Nancy Copp – 67 units

Chris Neal – 63 units

More heroes are needed! Watch for announcements of our next blood drives in the Windows to La Casa newsletter, Happenings in His House Sunday bulletin insert and here on this web site.

Putting a face on patients who receive your gift of life

Meet Rachel. Diagnosed with leukemia at age 5, she received 4 red blood cell transfusions and 2 platelet transfusions during her battle with the disease. Her mother said that blood donors are true heroes and Rachel would not be where she is today without their selfless gifts. Rachel’s last chemotherapy treatment was in June, 2003. Now an active 9 year old, she dreams of being a veterinarian.

Kristin Bardin is alive today because of 471 blood and platelet transfusions. She was diagnosed with leukemia when she was 10 years old and admitted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Transfusions helped keep Kristin strong enough to maintain an aggressive chemotherapy treatment schedule and a subsequent bone marrow transplant. “Blood donors saved my life,” Kristin said. “I have many things I want to pursue and goals I want to accomplish. Thanks to them, I have the chance to live out my dreams.” Today, she is a student at Chandler-Gilbert Community College with plans to become a pediatric oncology nurse.

Appointment times that day will be from 7:00am to 12:00 noon, and you can sign up for your preferred time at the Information Table on Sunday, or schedule your appointment by calling the church office at 480-948-1234, between 9:00am and 4:00pm, Monday-Friday.

Arizona requires 700 blood donors per day to meet the needs of our people. This is a gift of life that only you can give.  During 2006 people at La Casa de Cristo donated 175 pints of blood and the amazing part is that more than 450 people's lives were saved or made better due to these donations.

Give blood. Be a hero.  To schedule your life-saving appointment, please sign up at the Information table on Sunday, or you can sign up on line at www.BloodHero.com  (sponsor code “cristo”).

  • Remember to bring your photo ID. You MUST have it to donate.
  • Hydrate! UBS recommends drinking plenty of water to make your donation experience the best it can be.
  • Please eat a hearty meal before donating.
