Social Outreach Ministry

VICaP is a program of Beatitudes Center D.O.A.R (Developing Older Adult Resources) and ministry of our congregation. Learn more at www.centerdoar.org

VICaP Faith in Action helps homebound adults – older adults and those with  disabilities - live in their own homes as long as possible. Volunteers are recruited and trained to provide free services that include grocery shopping, transportation to medical and social service appointments, friendly visits and phone calls, home repairs, business help, computer training, respite, and home safety assessments. Insurance coverage is provided for each volunteer. VICaP Faith in Action serves Phoenix, Fountain Hills, Glendale, Litchfield Park, Paradise Valley, Peoria, and Scottsdale.

This volunteer, interfaith care-givers program serves not only church members, but the surrounding community.  The program helps neighbors who are homebound with various tasks such as: visits, phone calls, shopping, doctor appointments, business paper work and small handyman jobs.

If you know someone who would benefit from this service, or if you are interested in spending a few hours a week making life a bit easier for the homebound, please contact our VICaP coordinator:

The waitlist for VICaP Faith in Action’s services hovers around 200 people. Could you, or you and a friend, assist one of these homebound elders  with grocery-shopping, a ride to a medical appointment, solving a computer issue, minor home repairs, providing respite to a caregiver, reading mail to a visually impaired person, visiting, or making friendly phone calls?

You choose the service!  It might take less time and energy than you think! All you need to do is attend one VICaP orientation class. Please contact our VICaP coordinator, Jean Poarch, at 602-789-1844 for more info or to register for an orientation. Our congregation partners in this ministry that makes a remarkable difference in our community.

 Love Using Computers?

If so, sharing your passion could literally open a window to the world for an isolated older adult. Volunteers are needed to teach basic computer skills. Our congregation's partner, Beatitudes Center DOAR, offers computer assistance through its VICaP Faith in Action program. Elders and disabled adults who no longer drive may receive computers, internet access, training, and technical support in their own homes. People who receive this service express gratitude: "It’s a lifeline!" "I no longer feel so alone."

Some elders need only a few training sessions, while others need weekly sessions for a few months. Volunteers for one-time technical assistance are also needed. You choose a schedule that works for you. Volunteers may also provide seven other services, including shopping, transportation, and visiting. Or – you may know someone who could benefit from these services. Call La Casa’s VICaP coordinator, Jean Poarch at 602-789-1844, or Center DOAR at 602-285-0543 or go to www.centerdoar.org to request help or to volunteer.

Have Keys, Will Travel?

If you drive, have you ever complained about our Valley’s increasing traffic? How about the "crazy" drivers? Still, it is so much easier for us to get around than it is for people who can no longer drive. Beatitudes Center DOAR – our partner in service - matches elders and adults with disabilities who need rides to medical appointments with caring volunteers through their VICaP Faith in Action program. Providing this service not only brings a sense of peace to people in need, but also a wonderful feeling to the volunteers, as they meet fabulous people with incredible stories to share.

Do you have the gifts of a bit of time and good driving skills? If so, please call our VICaP Coordinator, Jean Poarch, at 602-789-1844; or call Center DOAR at 602-274-5022 or visit www.centerdoar.org to learn about the opportunities that await. Even providing a ride once per month would be terrific. You serve when you want to through this highly flexible service. Spending time in your car will never be more rewarding. Or, you could visit, do home repairs, grocery shop, organize paperwork, or teach computer skills with a homebound adult, or provide respite to a caregiver. You choose the service that is the best fit for you.

Showing Your Compassion

Our partnership with Beatitudes Center DOAR, through its VICaP Faith in Action program, brings help and hope to elders who no longer can drive. The program pairs caring volunteers with homebound adults who need visiting, grocery shopping, home repairs, computer training, rides to doctor appointments, respite, help with paperwork, or friendly phone calls. Please put your smile and caring spirit into action and become part of this network of care. To get started, attend a volunteer orientation. Call 602-285-0543 for a list of upcoming orientation dates and to register, or visit www.centerdoar.org. Substitutes are needed in the upcoming months as volunteers go on vacation, as well as people who are available to serve on a regular basis. Thank you!
