Why You Need the Retreat

Do you lack clarity with what God has laid on your heart?  Are you making an effort to slow down and listen?  Will you be obedient with what God may ask of you?  In the business of life, it is easy to be swept away with the demands of this world.  As men, we need to make time for ourselves. Time to study and pray. Time to improve our abilities as husbands, fathers and friend. Time to hang out with your brothers in Christ.  This year we have an incredible speaker, Vince D’ Acchioli, who will be sharing with us a vision God has laid on his heart.  Take the next step in your spiritual development.  Come be a part of a fantastic weekend as we walk together in this journey we call life!!!

Location - Bison Ranch Retreat Center

Bison Ranch Retreat Center is located in the resort area between Payson and Show Low. This is our third time at Bison Ranch Retreat Center.  Bison Ranch is located on 170 acres between Payson and Show Low, Arizona.  At 6500 feet up on the Rim, the September air is crisp and filled with the scent of the Ponderosa Pines.  There are miles of nature trails in the 800,000 acres of national forestland that backs up to the property.

There is plenty of free time throughout the weekend.  During the day, the most popular activities are hiking, horseback riding, basketball, fishing, or just spending some quite time alone with God.  At night, there are campfires, ping-pong, billiards, and college football games on the big screen TV.

Similar to last year we have great accomadations in the two-story lodge.   It includes clean beds, showers, and towels.   And with the incredible meals and snacks available 24x7, nobody has yet to complain of going home hungry!  All you need to bring is casual clothing, toiletries, your Bible, and an open heart.

How to get to Bison Ranch

From Phoenix: take the Beeline (Highway 87) east to Payson. Turn right on AZ Highway 260 and proceed approximately 60 miles to Heber-Overgaard. Bison Ranch is located about three miles east of Overgaard at 2269 Highway 260 (on the south side of the highway). Turn south into the main entrance of Bison Ranch (Bison Town is on the southeast corner); follow this road past the pond. Take the second left onto Ponderosa Loop, where the private cabins are located. Ponderosa Loop is a loop, with the entrance at the north end so, just go left around the loop to find the address.

2007 Men's Retreat

116 Hombres of La Casa gathered at Bison Ranch, Heber AZ, the weekend of September 14-16th! It was a great weekend! We set another record on men attending, up from 103 last year and 74 the year before! We also had over THIRTY men there for the FIRST time! Our theme was "Finishing Strong", based on Hebrews 12.

John Wenner led this year's retreat. He was surrounded by a leadership team of almost 15 men, who planned a super weekend! Friday afternoon we gathered at La Casa and drove nine vans to Heber.

We gathered for an evening meal, and then had our first chance to hear Pastor Steve Sonderman, our keynote speaker. Steve did a tremendous job of leading us through "Finishing Strong", and had something for everyone, married or single, dad or son, guys in the their 20's and their 80's (we had the whole range!"

Steve is associate pastor at Elmbrook Church in Wisconsin, a megachurch where he has ministered to men for over 20 years, and also the founder and director of Top Gun Men's Ministries. He was real , practical, and down to earth. He challenged and inspired the men!

In addition to the sessions with our keynote, there was small group time, time for relaxing and fishing, two hikes offered on Saturday, and plenty of time for ping-pong, pool, or just relaxing! This is our second year at Bison Ranch, and the facilities and food are outstanding!

Our time also involved worship and singing, and a special presentation of gift bibles to all men present.
