History of the Navajo Lutheran Mission: More than fifty years ago, Lutheran Christian missionaries arrived in Rock Point, a remote village near the Four Corners area. The Mission was founded with Bible study, English language classes, a clinic, an elementary school, and a worshiping congregation.
The Mission is about the Navajo people, many who live with social problems, abuse, housing needs, disease, unemployment, poverty, limited access to adequate health care, and in many cases no electricity or water. The goal of the Navajo Lutheran Mission is to improve the programs and services that will enhance the lives of these families.
The Navajo Lutheran Mission school is for K-6th grade with an enrollment of 75 children. It offers an alternative school to the Bureau of Indian Affairs and community schools, and provides an education that reflects Christian values while respecting Navajo culture and tradition.
